The challenge
Hilo design is a fashion design startup that gives customers personalized wardrobe. My role was to re design the existing mobile application by enhancing the front end design. To create an experience through which users would be able to customize their clothing by selecting fabric, size, color, body type, occasion etc., The experience should also reflect the luxury personalized service available in store.
- How might we communicate HiloDesign's bespoke offering to users and encourage them to purchase customised products?
- How might we provide the physical store bespoke experience as a frictionless digital product?
- How might we enhance the store experience with a digital product
Onboarding
- The customer needs to clearly understand the process, options and quality of the product to make a decision.
- Designed a scalable mobile app to serve as the starting point for multiple product customisation journeys, to prepare for future launches. Each path allowed users to select fabric, size, color, body type, occasion options, and learn about the craftsmanship behind the scenes.

Options and journey
- Worked closely with HiloDesign eCommerce team, I created several iterations of the wireframes to refine the journey and ensure that all options available were fully supported by the back-end ordering system and the production process at the atelier.
- Users start by choosing their preferred fashion choice, and a sequence of multiple questionnaire that defines their shopping style, trend choice, height and weight, fitting, body type, colors, budget by uploading their current photo.
- The backend system then generates some styles suggestions based on the users answers to the questionnaire.

Onward journey
- If the user is satisfied with the design suggestions and is ready for purchase the user could add the product to their shopping bag and continue through the checkout flow.
- The user can further customize by getting more personalised experience by talking to the expert designer.

Purchase
- If the user is satisfied with the design suggestions from the expert designer and is ready for purchase the user could add the product to their shopping bag and continue through the checkout flow Once the purchase is made the measurements are then taken via self assist or home appointment.
- If the self assist is selected user can manually enter their measurements otherwise if home appointment is selected the measurements are taken personally by a tailor visit home. Once the measurements are entered the order moves to production.

Validation and outcome
- This is an interesting project to evaluate, as business priorities meant that the goals, format and end user changed between completion and go-live. My original user was the customer, browsing and shopping on their own devices in order to learn more about and shop customised products.
- This project was also a great learning experience in how seemingly separate areas of the business rely on each other in order to meet their individual objectives, as well as business goals.
- When approaching a new project, I am reminded of the importance of both creating a narrative to clarify purpose, goals and expectations, and bringing in stakeholders from across the business to contribute to product ideation and highlight any potential risks.
- It was a great exercise in collaboration between design, product and tech and to deliver a usable product with time and resource constraints.
